Video: Streetfighter IV on the iPhone gets price and release date
by Serkan Toto on February 23, 2010

I myself am in the “This will never work”-camp, but Japanese video game giant Capcom is preparing a special version of their hit title “Streetfighter IV” for the iPhone/iPod touch. The announcement was made last week, making the iPhone version the first on a mobile device (the arcade game has been ported to the PS3 and XBox 360 only so far).

And today, Gamepro was able to lay their hands on Streetfighter IV (see their video below), revealing the final version will feature a total of eight characters: Ryu, Ken, Guile, Blanka, Chun-Li, Dhalsim, M. Bison and Abel (the console games have 17 playable characters).

Capcom also said Streetfighter is scheduled to hit the App Store next month with a price tag of $9.99. Graphics-wise, the version Gamepro was able to test looks pretty impressive, but I have massive doubts regarding control and playability – even though Capcom is behind this. There’s a reason why the iPhone doesn’t have many fighting games.

Here’s the video:

아이폰의 경쟁 타겟이 게임기 업체라는 말이 있었지만 사실 크게 와닿지 않았지만
언리얼 엔진이 드디어 아이폰에 올라간 것을 보니 이제 아이폰을 게임기로 보아도
무방할듯..

아래 유투브 데모를 보면 정말 부드럽게 잘 돌아간다...
리플을 단 유저들이 안드로이드에도 Plz를 절규하고 있다는 ㅎㅎ....

Video: Epic demos Unreal Engine 3 running on the iPhone

by Greg Kumparak on December 22, 2009

The iPhone is already touted for its gaming prowess almost endlessly, but it looks like things are about to take a pretty big leap forward. Epic Games has been crackin’ away at an iPhone port of their Unreal Engine 3 — the engine that powers such jaw-droppingly beautiful games as BioShock, Mirror’s Edge, Gears of War 2, and a bunch of others — and they’re now far enough along that they’re looking to show it off.

The first person lucky enough to get some hands-on time with the engine was Anand over at Anandtech, who seems to have walked away impressed. The stuff we’ll see on the iPhone obviously aren’t going to be pixel-for-pixel matches with that found on the current generation of consoles; textures will be downsampled, lighting and shading effectswill be toned down, etc. With that said, it ought to be pretty dang gorgeous.

It’ll still be a while before we see any games powered by the engine. Epic currently has no plans to get into the iPhone space for themselves, though they plan to license the engine some time in the near future. Epic has been been far more aggressive in pricing their engine licensing lately than they have in years prior, going as far as to give it away for free for noncommercial/educational use. Will they keep things cheap for the iPhone variant? We sure hope so.

Lastly: They’re not giving any specifics, but Epic’s also planning on showing off the engine running on a different mobile platform at CES. All things considered, it’s probably not webOS or BlackBerry OS – and that only leaves so many options. Any guesses?

4iThumbs: The craziest way to make your iPhone keyboard slightly more physical

by Greg Kumparak on November 25, 2009

Remember the iTwinge, that crazy slide-on plastic sheath
for the iPhone that would give you a physical keyboard by overlaying real buttons on top of the virtual ones? The 4iThumbs keypad is just like that, except it’s clear, rather than opaque black. Oh, and it requires you to stick a bunch of adhesive crap all over your iPhone.

Good idea? Bad idea? I’ll leave that call up to you – I’m too distracted by their waaaay cheesy commercial (starring not-Justin-Long and not-John-Hodgeman) to think about it. Word? Word. One more video after the jump.

마이크로소프트의 예처럼 아무래도 애플이 계속 막기에만 급급해하지 말고
막을 필요가 없는 환경을 만들어 주는 것이 더 좋을텐데...

Jailbreak-proof? Not so much

by Devin Coldewey on October 15, 2009

figure-a
I was going to use this graphic on the original story,
in which Apple modified the bootrom in new 3GSes to make them resistant to current exploits,
but Greg had already written it up.
But now, as Wired clarifies what was pretty much clear from the start
(it only protects against the current exploit), it has found a new place to shine.

This is the great circle of mods, people.
I can’t think of a single device that has been definitively protected from hacking.
Although we give Apple an “B” for effort (Sony gets the “A” for its relentless PSP updates),
the Sisyphean task of protecting a popular device from hackers is hardly worth pursuing any more.
